We’re back with another helpful tip that many of us know but all need to be reminded of. MSU registrar’s office is officially back open. I know, exciting right? What that means is that those of us who have been waiting to make some last minute changes to our schedule are able to do so! After all, the registrar has been closed for nearly 56 years du
e to the freshman AOP.
Considering the time lapse; I just might have changed my mind or my major. lol. The good news is there is no penalty financially for making these last minute changes. Also, if the class you want is all booked up, chances are the prof will admit you in if you need it for your major requirement. Just go to the schedule of courses look up the class, prof, and time, and make your way to that class as if you own the place. Tell the prof your plight, get an add in by the prof, and there ya have it, your graduating on time. Little MSU student tip.
I have heard some crazy stories of students not taking no for an answer; I know I was one of them. If you have a crazy story to share about your late ad, let us hear em. Share it here.
Til next time.

I recently went to spend some time with my best friend and her husband in Florida. On my last night there, Becca and I decided to make use of her wedding presents and try our hand at making some sushi. Above is a picture of the actual sushi we made! We were a little nervous as neither of us had made it before, but it was surprisingly easy and most of all fun!
Here are some tips for making sushi at your Chandler Crossings apartment:
- Make sure you have the right ingredients. It DOES matter what type of rice you have, so make sure you purchase the kind made especially for sushi rolls.
- Do all your prep first. Make sure all ingredients are cut and ready so that when you start they are right at your fingertips.
- Have a sense of humor. The first time you make it, it may not be perfect, but that is all part of the fun. (The first roll I made turned out as an oval).
Ingredients
- 1 cup prepared sushi rice
- ½ avocado
- 4 crab sticks (or real king crab or jumbo lump crab meat for a luxury California roll)
- ½ cucumber
- 1 sheet dried nori seaweed
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
- For a spicy California roll, add a few drops of hot pepper sauce to the mayonnaise
Preparation
- Cut the peeled and pitted avocado and the peeled cucumber in quarters lengthwise.
- Spread the sushi rice over the sheet of seaweed, and sprinkle the sesame seeds over the surface.
- If you don’t have a bamboo rolling mat, place a sheet of plastic wrap on the worktop, and turn the layer of seaweed and sushi rice upside down flat on the the plastic wrap so that the seaweed ends up on top.
- Place the avocado, cucumber and crab sticks evenly down the center, and coat the filling with mayonnaise. Roll the layer up from one edge, and slice the roll into 8 pieces.

Enjoy, and happy rolling!

Summer is a prime time to entertain. I know in college it’s not as prevalent to host nice dinner parties, but it’s a nice change in pace. Invite your MSU crew over for some good eats and friendly conversation. Thanks to the foodnetwork, here are some helpful tips to be an awesome host.
#1. Always plan ahead. It is very distracting to have a stressed out host.
#2. It is not rude to ask for help, though. Since we are college students, it’s not a bad idea to ask for someone to bring the small stuff like ice or soda.
#3. When it comes to food, keep it finger friendly unless you have a large table to set. Finger friendly foods are easy for your guests to help themselves to.
#4. Keep the crowd moving! A buffet set up is perfect, but don’t forget to label the foods, condiments and drinks.
#5. As always, have fun and keep smiling!
I hope you can use these tips to host an awesome dinner party at your East Lansing Student Apartment. Have a great dinner party idea that you would love to share? Please do so! I would love to hear all about it!

Go MSU! Go GREEN!
Hello again! I know for the last few months we have all heard “Be Green” or “Recycle” on almost a daily basis. Truthfully, I must admit, I can do a lot more than just returning my bottles to the nearest bottle return location here in East Lansing. I propose that we all put in some effort to do a few things around where we live to make the world a little cleaner and our surroundings look way better.
1. Stop throwing your cigarette butts on the ground! People I know many don’t want to keep cigarette butts in your pocket or in your car, but we should at least keep them on us or in our ash trays until we find a proper way of disposing them. You would be surprised how much cleaner you apartment parking lots and landscaping would look. And let’s be honest, we all love a classy looking place.
2.People, People, People…I love Fido as much as the next person, but when Fido is a Great Dane and pushing 150lbs, he no light weight in the trousers if you know what I mean. He’s doing some serious business when he goes out for his daily walk. Let’s try to clean up after our man’s best friends. Trust me, you almost want to throw the shoe away rather than clean it yourself. It will never be the same in my opinion. Try bringing a plastic bag or a scooper to handle the situation.
3. Pretty soon, everyone is going to be moving to new apartments, saying out with the old in with the new. Instead of simply throwing away no longer used apparel, try donating it to a nearby thrift store or salvation army. Many are closer than you may think. In fact there is three donation sites all within 3 miles of your East Lansing Apartment.
Just a few quick tips to keep in mind doing your daily routines. Seems small but I am reminded of back in the 90′s, to nickelodeon’s “The Big Help”, yes people I went there. I pitched in! I felt pretty darn good eating my cereal and watching Salute your Shorts or Hey Dude and shortly afterward taking my trash out to the garbage man (personally mind you, at age 7 that was a huge deal). Let’s get back to that and do our part no matter how big or small it makes all the difference.

Do we spend entirely too much time on the net? Well in short ladies and gentleman. The answer is yes. But, don’t fret, that’s not entirely a bad thing. After all, your loving every single post inside this Lounge aren’t you? Yes…yes you are.
Studies show that there can be adverse affects due to too much Internet use. I guess it’s unhealthy to be in front of the screen for hours and hours at a time. I guess I can kinda understand what they are saying however; I must respectfully disagree with the so called evidence and go on further to say that this person obviously not a college student in the new millennium.
We breathe, live, and sleep the Internet. We have to. From assignments due on ANGEL to facebook messages that have to be responded to at a moments notice, there is no way of getting away from it. I personally no longer watch TV. My new TV is Youtube. (I can almost see the heads nod in agreement.)
So to answer the question, do we spend way too much time on the net? In short no…. and I don’t plan on slowing down. If loving the net is wrong, someone help me I don’t want to be right.

Enough is enough. Please. I beg of you. America begs you.

To every television network both minor and major: We’ve stopped caring about Jon and Kate Gosselin. We just have. I’ll confess to guys everywhere in East Lansing: I, at one time, loved their show Jon & Kate Plus 8. I didn’t even have an excuse like, “My girlfriend makes me watch it”. I just enjoyed the show. What’s not to like? Jon, the laid back Dad. Kate, the up tight obsessive Mom. And eight real life, high personality children.
This was like Dawson’s Creek on performance enhancing drugs.
But as announced last week, Jon and Kate are getting a divorce and the future of the show is uncertain. Ever since that episode, I can’t find a channel who hasn’t provided some coverage of their pending family situation. CNN chimed in. Fox News has its take. MSNBC most likely has a JonKate8 NewsTicker at the bottom of their screen. And I can’t say for sure, but I’m fairly certain the Disney Channel interviewed the Jonas Brothers, as they were truly heart broken about the situation as a whole.
Now, I’m sure this is hard on the Gosselin family. Divorce always is. But leave these people alone. Please. If for no other reason than so they can leave us alone, too.

Despite these tough times, there is one thing all of us Michiganders hold dearly. Our Northern Michigan summers. You know, the cabin on the lake that your family goes to every year. Where you can ski, have campfires, tube, wake-board, go out on the pontoon boat, and most of all relax. Yeah, that spot.
I have been going up north ever since I was a baby. Every summer…Every year of my life. We always have the best times up there. Those warm summer nights with starry skies where you can sit around the campfire and catch up with extended family and friends. I hold those times dearly.
The part that saddens me though, is that every year that passes I have less time I get to vacation up there. With work obligations, classes, meetings etc. Things that we all must do for our careers just naturally get in the way of these Northern Michigan excursions. There is nothing we can do about it, except cherish the time we do have up north every year, even if it whittles down to a few days, and hold those moments dearly.
As Michiganders, despite what some may say about us or our economy. We have something special. A getaway of our own, unique in its own special way. I urge you all, if you have a Northern Michigan getaway spot, to find time this summer to take a vacation from your MSU Apartment and enjoy it. I know I’m glad I did.
