It seems like every time I leave my MSU student apartment, I see, read, or hear someone talking about how important participating in the Census is. It’s everywhere! But, I found myself with one question…
How do I participate?
1. The Census form will arrive in mailboxes mid-March and must be filled out and postmarked by April 1st.
2. Forms must be filled out in the community where you’ll be living on April 1st.
3. It’s a short, 10 question form.
4. All information will be kept confidential by the US government.
For every person counted, federal funds are brought back into the community over 10 years. Funds are used for things like Dell Grants, public transportation, energy efficient grants, and more! It’s your duty to participate!
For more information, visit the City of East Lansing’s Census Page.

Hey there hockey fans! Don’t forget to make your way down to the Joe Louis Arena for the ultimate showdown between Michigan and Michigan State hockey this weekend. Known as Michigan Hockey Day, this Saturday, January 30th the two rivals will battle at The Joe at 7:30pm. This is an awesome tradition that allows fans from all over to join in on the college hockey fun, but in the fun atmosphere of The Joe Louis Arena.
I personally have been to a few of their games there and the crowd is just overwhelming! It is like watching hockey in a football stadium! I loved the Spartan Pride that MSU fans brought, and the talent of both teams always makes for a great game.
Tickets are on sale online through websites like www.ticketmaster.com, or you can get student tickets by clicking here. They are fairly inexpensive, just about $12 per person.
Prefer to watch it from your MSU apartment? Catch the game on FSN Detroit. For students living at Chandler Crossings apartments, check it out on channel 27, or at CBSSports.com on the Game Tracker.
GO GREEN!

Can you believe that 2009 is coming to a close? Where has the time gone? Just so you know, there is plenty of things to do for the New Year Celebration that is super close to your MSU apartment. East Lansing is a great place to be any time of the year, and New Year’s is no exception. If you are looking to go out for a night on the town, here are some great events that will provide plenty of festive fun for a New Year’s Eve that you will always remember!
Pretty much all of the nightlife in East Lansing will have New Year’s parties such as Harpers, The Post, and Club Rush. There are awesome specials, and The Post has a cool deal where $20 covers each couple for a night of good food and party favors to bring in the New Year.
Connxtions Comedy Club is throwing a bash hosted by comedian Ward Anderson, so it will be a funny celebration.
The Small Planet concert venue right next to Chandler Crossings is having a 18+ fiesta with great music and food specials.
ENSO (which is also super close to your MSU student apartment) has a cool deal for $35 per person which includes appetizers 10pm to midnight and a cool DJ. This is a more upscale event, but still a lot of fun.
Check out Lansing State Journal’s site for a huge list of events! Give us a shout if you find anything cool that we should add to our list!

Looking for something to get you in the Holiday spirit? Check out this awesome festival I found coming soon to the area:
“During the first weekend of December the streets of Old Town will be filled with thousands of residents, business owners, and visitors enjoying the 3rd Annual Old Town Dickens Village. This celebration serves as an opportunity to bring patrons to Old Town to appreciate all it has to offer at the merriest time of the year.
Old Town Dickens Village is a free, family-friendly, all-welcoming event to kick off the holiday season in Old Town. Participants will be treated to music, interactions with characters from Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, horse and carriage rides, puppet shows, arts and crafts, holiday craft markets, art show openings and more.
This is only the third year, but Dickens Village is still focused on bringing people to Old Town to experience all we have to offer, while keeping the event free for patrons. We invite you to be a part of this exciting holiday event.”
(Quoted article released with permission from iloveoldtown.org)
So check it out! December 5th and 6th from Noon to 5PM. Get ready for a great time!

Many Chandler Crossings residents and MSU students utilize East Lansing taxi’s on a regular basis. While this is a great decision for safety and convenience, it could be doing a number on your piggy bank. Until recently, I would pay the taxi driver what ever rate he told me I owed. Little did I know, unless the taxi driver has a meter in his vehicle (which many don’t) the actual rates are set for East Lansing and must be obeyed.
You should never pay more than a $6 minimum (whether this is for one or more people) or $3 per person. Of course it is OK to tip, but I have paid $6 for just myself when there were other people in the taxi.
Last week Chandler Crossings was invited to meet with the East Lansing City Clerk and she informed us about this new taxi update. She also mentioned that due to the traffic back ups caused by the taxi’s downtown on Albert Street that they are currently trying to re-route the taxis’ to M.A.C. We will keep everyone updated with these changes, but for now just remember that you should only pay $3 per person, unless you are alone and they clearly post a $6 minimum or have a meter. This also doesn’t matter where in East Lansing you are going, and how many miles it is to your destination.
So, continue being safe and using taxi services to your advantage, not theirs!

Are there any people out there who still loves Haunted Houses? Well if you’re anything like me, then the answer is yes! I know we all used to go Trick or Treating as kids, had a Halloween party in school and begged our parents to go to an Haunted House, but why should we stop doing the things that we loved to do as kids. In search of some fun, I stumbled across an haunted house that is not that far from MSU campus. It’s called Phantasmagoria and it’s located at the Fun Tyme Adventure Park in Okemos, MI. It’s about a fifteen minute drive from Chandler Crossings Apartments.
I went last year and I had a really good time. I’m going to be honest with you, it’s not the scariest place you will find, but it has it’s moments. One great thing that I really like about this haunted house is that there are three haunted houses in one. The three sections of the haunted house are all different and unique in their own way. One section is a maze filled with zombies popping out at you, the next section is a 3D maze filled with eye popping creatures and lastly the final section is a wall to wall horror maze with tunnels and spiral mazes that will make you dizzy! Like I said, it’s not the scariest place to go, but if you go with a bunch of your friends, I’m sure you’ll have a good time.
Either way, I hope you have a Happy Halloween!

It’s that time of year. People are moving out of their East Lansing Student Apartments and moving onto the next. Even though it is a tedious and emotional roller coaster, you still have the opportunity to do a good deed and help feed people in need.
When you’re done moving all your clothes, TVs, and personal belongings, it is time to go through the dreaded kitchen. Moving the small stuff is sometimes a lot more annoying than moving the big ticket items, at least for me. When you go through your cabinets and refrigerator though, don’t just throw everything away! Take time to save what is non-perishable and take a quick drive to any of these food banks in the Lansing area to help feed people in need. Leave your mark in a good way on East Lansing before you move out of your MSU apartment. Donate to those in need.

So I am not sure about any of you, but by this point in the summer my wallet is usually running pretty dry. Although I generally have a shortage of funds, I don’t want my ability to get out and enjoy the great weather and longer days of summer to be hindered. Fortunately, there are a lot of fun events happening around East Lansing and MSU’s campus, and the best part? They’re free.
This weekend August 7-9 check out the Great Lakes Folk Festival presented by the MSU Museum. It is billed as being a “unique fusion of arts fair, music festival, county fair, multi-ethnic festival, hands-on activity workshops, and celebration of cultural heritage.” Some of the musical performers include Lost Bayou Rablers (Cajun), Slide (Irish Celtic), Jesse McReynolds and the Virginia Boys (Bluegrass), and Shotgun Party (Western Swing). There is somthing to suit almost every musical taste and it’s held right in East Lansing. And don’t forget the food! There will be regional and ethnic foods like Ethiopian, Hawaiian, Jamaican and more.
Parking will be available in East Lansing, on the MSU campus, and also at commuter lots.
For more information or to volunteer, call the MSU Museum at (517) 432-4533
Hope to see you there!
