» We Love the 90′s

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

I was sitting in my MSU student apartment last night surfing the web when I came across retrojunk.com. This web site is awesome! You have to check it out. It lists all your favorite things that you forgot you loved about the 90′s. Do you remember watching the cartoon Doug? It was one of my favorites. If I was given a DVD collector series of the cartoon Doug, I would have a movie marathon in my East Lansing student apartment right now.

Or what about the TV series, Are You Afraid of the Dark? I remember watching Are You Afraid of the Dark every Saturday night as a kid growing up. And the funniest part is at the time I thought it was soo scary! I watched a clip of the show on retrojunk.com and I just laughed at how silly I was for thinking that show was scary.

Some of my other TV show favorites from the 90′s are: Sailor Moon, Salute Your Shorts, Tiny Toons, Hey Arnold, Power Rangers and Captain Planet. Those shows I grew up on. You have to take a minute out of your busy day in your MSU apartment and check out the video collection of the 90′s. It will bring you back.

What do you and your roommates love about the 90′s?

Sunday, August 15th, 2010

If you only watch one show this summer make sure it’s Michigan State University’s student run sitcom, The ShoW! Airing for almost 22 years now, The ShoW is revamping it’s image and quality. Now shooting in HD with an entirely new set the cast and crew are ready to give you a show that will you keeping you wanting more!

In the past The ShoW concentrated on the lives of six underclassmen in Wilson Hall but some of the characters, or ShoWbies, have moved out into East Lansing apartments! MSU’s favorite “horrible” couple Richard and Leslie have taken their relationship to the next level by moving into student housing near MSU together in the new episodes, 75 & 76.

But not only have the characters grown, your options to watch the show have grown as well. You can watch it on MSU’s campus, Sundays at 4:00pm on the RHA channel (channel 11) or you can watch it in the comfort of your own Chandler Crossings apartment on YouTube.

» A-Rod 600 Home Run!

Friday, August 6th, 2010

A-Rod finally hit his 600th career home run! Sitting in my Chandler Crossings apartment, I witnessed history! Even though his career has been tainted due to his use of banned substances in the MLB, he has reacheed a remarkable accomplishment. I wonder how many students watched from their student housing near MSU? How do you guys feel about A-Rod and his 600th home run? I’m dying to read your responses.

» Shaq To The Celtics

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

I don’t know about you, but I am kind of upset with Shaq for signing with the Boston Celtics. I actually yelled in my Chandler Crossings apartment, I may have been loud enough for other students to hear from their student housing near MSU. I personally think that if Shaq considers himself as a All-Time Laker great, he has no business playing for their much hated rival, Boston Celtics. You would never see Michael Jordan playing for the New York Knicks or Larry Bird playing for the Los Angeles Lakers. I have lost a lot of respect for Shaq now. He used to be one of my favorite players, now I just wish he retires soon before he damage his legacy more. Am I overreacting?

Until next time,
Chris C

» Brett Favre Retired or Not?

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

Have any of you guys been keeping up with the whole Brett Favre soap opera? I was watching sportscenter the other day in my Chandler Crossings apartment and I saw a report of Brett Favre retiring from the NFL. Honestly, I didn’t really pay attention, because it seems like he retires every offseason and decides to come back and play. I am preparing myself to watch the Minnesota Vikings take on the Detroit Lions from my MSU student apartment. So, I’m saying he will be back for at least one last season, what do you guys think?

Until next time,
Ernest M.

» Madden Monday!!!!!

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

Well its that time of the year again, the beginning of the Pro Football Mini-Camps and the release of this years edition of Madden 2011. This years edition features the inclusion of the brand new “Game Flow” system that will supposedly shorten games from 60 minutes to 30. Of course the game will feature updated animations, new rosters and cover athlete Drew Brees, for those of you who are Saints fans. My friends and I will definitely be ready for some intense games in my Chandler Crossings Apartment. You can pick up the game from Gamestop at Eastwood Town Center at midnight, just be prepared to stand in-line for quite awhile. I know what I will be doing in my MSU student apartment for the next couple weeks! I will let you know how the game is!

» The Jersey Shore Season 2 Premier Tonight

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Guess what? Grab those roomies and gather around your TV in your MSU student apartment because tonight is the premier of The Jersey Shore Season 2!

Here’s the summary from MTV  just in case you missed out last season: The eight housemates of Jersey Shore are back for another season of GTL, fist-pumping, and battling grenades. But now the party has moved south to Miami Beach, where they’ll spend the winter rekindling old friendships and old flames. The area code may have changed but the drama remains the same as The Situation and Pauly D creep on girls, Snooki and Jwoww go gorilla hunting and Sammi and Ron pick up right where they left off. Even Vinny and Angelina are there to help bring the Jersey Shore magic to South Beach. The haters will be hatin’, the Ron Ron Juice will be flowin’ and Snooki will be Snookin’ on Season Two of Jersey Shore.

Wondering what channel you can catch The Jersey Shore on in your Chandler Crossing apartment? Tune into channel 56 MTV at 10:00 p.m.

Woo! I can’t wait for this season! Any one else?

» Book Review: Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Are you looking for a series of books to read in your MSU Apartment before the busyness of classes start in about a month?  If you are, I suggest that you pick up one of the most critically acclaimed book trilogies on the market today: Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy.

If you are not familiar, Stieg Larsson is a Swedish author and journalist who died in 2004 of a heart attack at the age of 50.  Right before he passed away, he finished three crime manuscripts which make up the trilogy: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest.

I have to be honest, I have heard of this book series for a while but I just starting to get into it.  My girlfriend, who is an avid reader, has been singing the praises of these books for a while.  She told me I would enjoy them because I watch all of the crime shows on TV and like stories with a lot of unexpected twists and turns.  After she finished the first book, she told me that she wanted to watch the movie, which was a Swedish foreign film and thus had subtitles.  I was not too thrilled to watch it, but I Netflixed it anyways.  The movie was all that and then some!  I wish I would have read the first book before I saw the movie!  Thus I am now reading the second book and it is great!  I will then watch the second movie in my MSU student apartment, which is due out for rental later this year.

Without giving away too many details, the novels’ primary character is Lisbeth Salander.  Salander is a brilliant woman in her twenties who works for a private investigation firm by day and a computer hacker by night.  She has had a difficult childhood that is chronicled throughout the first and second book.  In The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Salander befriends Mikael Blomkvist, a discredited journalist who has made a career in uncovering economic corruption and abuses of power in Sweden (in the story).  Armed with Salander’s photographic memory and Blomksvist’s skills in uncovering the truth, the odd couple attempts to solve a 40 year old cold case murder.

What makes the books so interesting is that they outline major problems in society today.  The first book looks at abuses of power, especially when it comes to male and female relationships.  The Girl Who Played With Fire mirrors the human trafficking issue, which is a problem that is now getting publicity.  The final book chronicles government and legal corruption extensively.  In reading a biography of the author, Blomksvist’s experiences in the books mirror Larsson’s own experiences as an investigative reporter.  The books have been a hit internationally, selling over 25 million copies.  Also expect an American movie studio to do a film adaption to the books as well.  This trilogy is again, A MUST READ!  They start at about $6 at Meijer’s near your Michigan State University apartment.

Do these books sound interesting?  Are you going to pick them up and read them?  How about watching the movie? Let your voice be heard!

-Shaun Holness
