If you only watch one show this summer make sure it’s Michigan State University’s student run sitcom, The ShoW! Airing for almost 22 years now, The ShoW is revamping it’s image and quality. Now shooting in HD with an entirely new set the cast and crew are ready to give you a show that will you keeping you wanting more!
In the past The ShoW concentrated on the lives of six underclassmen in Wilson Hall but some of the characters, or ShoWbies, have moved out into East Lansing apartments! MSU’s favorite “horrible” couple Richard and Leslie have taken their relationship to the next level by moving into student housing near MSU together in the new episodes, 75 & 76.
But not only have the characters grown, your options to watch the show have grown as well. You can watch it on MSU’s campus, Sundays at 4:00pm on the RHA channel (channel 11) or you can watch it in the comfort of your own Chandler Crossings apartment on YouTube.
For anyone in the customer service industry or retail industry, I always wonder if we all realize how important it really is in the long run of things. Its not necessarily how nice you are, but really how genuine you are and how sincere you are in your dealings with the public. Sincerity goes along way, not just at Chandler Crossings, or at MSU, but everywhere.
I think that customer service can make or break your opinion of a place. For example, I went out to eat at a restaurant not too long ago and the customer service was awful. First of all, when I walked in no one greeted me. I had to stand in front of the hostess stand for about two minutes before the hostess finally saw that I was standing there. When she came up to greet us she didn’t say anything other than, ‘Follow me, right this way” and, that’s it. To make matters worse, it took another 10 minutes before our waitress came over to take our order! In fact, I had to go up to the bar to even order our sodas!
I think the most disappointing part of the experience was the food was amazing but I will not come back because of the service I got. Anyone else have a similar experience to share?
My Oh My! Did anyone else see the Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert’s rant? I was relaxing in my Chandler Crossings apartment flipping through channels like I normally do when I came across this letter that Dan Gilbert wrote to his fans. Wow, he did a number on Lebron James! He basically called Lebron egotistical and self centered. After 7 years of LeBron taking the Cavaliers to the playoffs, finals and to the best record in the NBA several times. I think LeBron gave the Cavs everything he had but with the team they built, they would never be in the position to compete for a championship. In the end, I guess, Gilbert, expressed the feelings most Clevelanders felt and it cost him a pretty hefty fine of $100,000. In a shocking display of affection, the fans opted to pay the fine. Respectfully, Gilbert declined and vowed that Cavs would win a championship before the “King” would. I think it was a lot of hurt in his letter, sort of like the feeling you get when you deal with an emotional break-up. What do you think? Was it fair or foul?
You guys have to check out the VH1‘s Chad Ocho Cinco Show! If you know anything about Chad Och Cinco, then you know that this guy is a character and now somebody gave him his own dating reality show. I was in my Chandler Crossings apartment dying from laughter. The show is a mixture of a NFL training camp and a reality dating game. If you get a break or a chance to catch the show, kick back in your MSU apartment and tune into VH1 on Sundays at 10pm. Check out next weeks show and let me know what you think.
Did anyone else watch the World Cup Final between Spain and Netherlands? It was an awesome match! Lots of defense and a lot of great saves. I watched the match from my Chandler Crossings apartment, but I felt like I was at the stadium, cheering with all the fans! The match was so great that the winner had to be decided in extra time. Finally in the 116th minute, Andres Iniesta, of Spain Kicked in the winning goal. Even though, the US soccer team was elimilated early in the tourney, I yelled as if we had won. I’m pretty sure other students heard me from their student housing near MSU. What did you guys think about the match? I would love to hear your feedback.
The quote “you can never go home again” has probably never been more true. Last night, in his one hour ESPN special dubbed “The Decision,” LeBron James announced that he would be leaving his hometown team to sign a contact with the Miami Heat. He sited the reason for his decision was to play with two other great players (Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade) so he could compete for a championship immediately.
Being a native Clevelander, I am of course disappointed by “The Decision.” The Cleveland area benefited from the presence of LeBron James in the area. The home grown boy from Akron is one of the most dominant players in the NBA. With that dominance came many wins and caused the economy in the Cleveland area to grow. The city, which is known for not winning a major sports championship since 1964, finally seemed destined to win a title with James.
But as all Cleveland fans know, all good things in sports in the city must come to an end, without a title. James used his free agent right and signed with another team. Again, even though I am disappointed in the decision, I get it. The Miami Heat with James is probably in a better position to win a title than the Cavaliers with James. I am just disappointed with the way he told his home town and the world.
Does any free agent need his own one hour show to tell the world where he will play next? I know that a lot of the sponsorship proceeds from the special went to the Boys and Girls Club, but I have a feeling that was just a ploy to cover up the fact that he was sticking it to his former team and city in the prime-time episode. It might have also looked better if the show was staged at a Boys and Girls Club in a less affluent part of the country, and not in Greenwich, Connecticut. Finally, how can you not tell the Cavaliers, the team that nurtured you since you were a teenager, about your free agent decision before you go on the air? James actually had one of his representatives call the Cavaliers right before he told the world his decision. To tell the team like that does not seem fair to the Cleveland franchise.
But, life goes on for Clevelanders. I am not bitter about his decision. I hope he made the best decision when it comes to winning. I actually believe that Chicago would have been the best destination for him to win. With a young nucleus of Derrick Rose, Taj Gibson, Joakim Noah and veterans Carlos Boozer and Luol Deng, I feel that the Bulls would be better with James than the Heat would be with him. After LeBron, Wade, and Bosh, Miami does not have much of a roster. Maybe James just wanted to play basketball with his friends. I would probably do the same thing, considering that he lost a lot of friends last night.
Did you watch the special last night in your MSU apartment? What did you think?
Ok, we pretty much know who will be the top three picks in this years NBA draft. But what about some of the not so hyped up talent that this years draft has to offer us. I believe after all the speculations of this year draft being the weakest it has been for years, there are some diamonds in the ruff. At home, in my East Lansing student apartment, I was thinking about all the good talent that was coming out of college this year. Like, Cole Aldrich, Ed Davis and James Anderson, just to name a few. Honestly, what I’m waiting for, is to see what the Detroit Pistons are going to do in this years draft. I’m praying that they do not go after another Darko Milicic. If we do, I’m going to yell so loud, all the student housing near MSU will hear. Just joking…. Let me know who you think this years steal will be. Until next time…..
Did anyone watch the US vs. Slovenia World Cup match? It was a great game! I watched it from my East Lansing student apartment. After trailing the first half, the US soccer team rallied to tie the match in the 2nd half. I was stoked in my Chandler Crossings apartment. What looked to be the winning goal by the US, it was wiped away by a “phantom” foul call. That goal woud’ve gave the US the victory and a point in the standings. I think that was a horrible call, what do you think?
June 15, 2010 will go down as one of the greatest days in Michigan State athletics history. On that day, the University’s iconic coach Tom Izzo announced to Spartan fans and his players that he had rejected the overtures of the Cleveland Cavaliers and decided to continue to coach the MSU basketball team. He also added that the Michigan State job will be his last; for he will stay at the University “…for life.”
Why did Izzo decide to turn down more money, a chance to coach the best player in basketball, and the challenge of the NBA? To me, it comes down to one simply idea: certainty versus uncertainty.
With coaching the Michigan State team, there are a lot of certainties. The 2010-2011 Spartan basketball team will certainly contend for a Big Ten championship and maybe a National Championship. Tom Izzo is certain to be considered one of the best coaches in his profession. He has a very stable program that looks to continue its winning ways into the foreseeable future. He has the certainty of continuing to construct the MSU basketball program into his image, with the players he decides to recruit. He also has the certainty that he will never be fired and will be ultimately inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame. Because of all that, many Michigan State fans are certain that Izzo will reach his ultimate goal: to bring another National Championship to MSU in the near future.
Although Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert could offer Izzo $30 million in guaranteed money, he could not offer the same type of certainties staying at MSU would. Actually, there is not much certainty when it comes to the Cavalier franchise these days. Most of that uncertainty revolves around the contact status of LeBron James. If James returns to Cleveland, the Cavaliers could be competing for a championship. If he does not, Cleveland could be in the lottery. Since Izzo did not know what James would do, he could not leave MSU not knowing the make up of the Cleveland roster.
Also keep in mind that Izzo would not be picking his own players if he took the Cleveland job. He would have had a general manager to do that. The general manager in Cleveland (Chris Grant) is new to the position. Would this rookie general manager sign players that Izzo can use? I think Izzo likes being the boss of his own program and would want to pick his own players. How would he feel about answering to 2 other people (Gilbert and Grant) as well? Because NBA coaches are not their own bosses, there is a chance he could be fired if he does not win a championship or he quarrels with his high priced players. And what would have happened to his assistant coaches and their families and Michigan State if decided to leave? That is too much uncertainty for Izzo and his family to bear.
So since Izzo is staying, how do you think the MSU team will do this year? Did you watch the press conference in your MSU apartment?
Summer is here and with it come road trips, and higher gas prices. I thought some handy tips of how to cut down on gas mileage would be helpful this week! Keep reading for some awesome ways to save money while you’re out enjoying your summer. Thanks to bankrate.com for the tips!
Fill up with a lower-octane gasoline. Buy the lowest grade or octane of gasoline that is appropriate for your car. Unless your car requires premium gasoline, filling up your car with high-octane fuel is a waste of money. That pricey premium fuel won’t boost your car’s fuel economy or performance in the least, so skip it.
If you’re not sure what grade of fuel works best for your car, open up your owner’s manual and take a look. As long as your engine doesn’t knock or ping when you fuel up with regular unleaded, you’re good to drive on this much cheaper gas. Passing on pricey premium gasoline could save you hundreds of dollars a year.
Don’t top off. Don’t bother topping off when filling your car’s gas tank. Any additional gas is just going to slop around or seep out. Why waste your money paying for gas your car won’t use? Stop pumping at the first indication that your tank is full when the automatic nozzle clicks off.
Tighten up that gas cap. Gas will evaporate from your car’s gas tank if it has an escape. Loose, missing or damaged gas caps cause 147 million gallons of gas to evaporate each year, according to the Car Care Council. So be sure to tighten up that gas cap each time you fuel up your car.
Go for the shade. The hot summer sun that makes the inside of your car feel like a sauna also zaps fuel from your gas tank.
“If you let your car bake in the sun there’s going to be a greater amount of evaporative emissions that take place than if you park in the shade,” says Jim Kliesch, research associate at the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy and vehicle analyst for GreenerCars.com.
So park your car in the shade of a building or tree whenever possible. And buy a good windshield shade. A windshield shade blocks sunlight and helps to keep heat out of the inside of your car.
Use your garage for your car. Got a garage? Clear it out and make room for your car. Parking in your garage will help your car stay warm in winter and cool in summer, and you won’t have to depend as much on your gas-guzzling air-conditioning or defroster when you drive.
Pump up your tires.Don’t get caught driving on underinflated tires. Underinflated tires wear down more quickly and they also lower your car’s gas mileage.
“Tires that have low pressure offer more resistance so the engine is going to work harder to keep the car at 60,” says Brian Moody, road test editor at Edmunds.com.
Your car’s gas mileage may plummet by as much as 15 percent. Driving on underinflated tires may also reduce the life of your tires by 15 percent or more.
Check your tire pressure once a month. Buy a digital gauge and keep it in your glove box. Compare the pressure in your tires with the recommended pressure listed in your owner’s manual and on the placard in your car door. Then inflate your tires as needed. Be sure to check tire pressure when your tires are cold. A good time is early in the morning after your car’s been idle overnight.
Keep your engine in tune. Fixing a car that is out of tune or has failed an emissions test can boost gas mileage by about 4 percent. So be sure to give your car regular tune-ups. You’ll also want to watch out for worn spark plugs. A misfiring spark plug can reduce a car’s fuel efficiency by as much as 30 percent.
Replace air filters. Keep a close eye on your engine’s air filter. When the engine air filter clogs with dirt, dust and bugs, it causes your engine to work harder and your car becomes less fuel-efficient. Replacing a clogged air filter could improve your gas mileage by as much as 10 percent and save you 15 cents a gallon. It’s a good idea to have your engine air filter checked at each oil change. The Car Care Council recommends changing your car’s air and oil filters every three months or 3,000 miles or as specified in your owner’s manual.
Use the right oil. You can improve your car’s gas mileage by 1 percent to 2 percent by using the manufacturer’s recommended grade of motor oil. Opt for motor oil with the words “energy conserving” on the API performance label. This oil contains friction-reducing additives.
Don’t skimp on maintenance. Be serious about auto care. Your car’s performance depends on it.
“Always follow the manufacturer-recommended maintenance,” Moody says. “The car’s designed to run a certain way. If you neglect it, it won’t be as efficient.”
Obey the car-care guidelines outlined in your owner’s manual. For more auto-care guidelines check out this free maintenance schedule from the Car Care Council.
