» Drew Stanton’s Debut

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Drew StantonThis past Sunday, Michigan State University’s own Drew Stanton made his first NFL start against the San Fransisco 49ers.  Lions and Spartan fans across Michigan have waited three years for Drew to be given a shot, and unfortunately were disappointed as he threw three interceptions and fumbled the football once.

Drew Stanton did not have a good game.  Bottom line.  With that said however, the disgust and extreme level of disappointment from Detroit fans and sports writers was rediculous.  Nearly every article covering the game stated that this one performance alone was grounds to say Drew Stanton will never be an NFL starter, or even a viable backup quarterback.

Because of his FIRST game!

If every NFL player’s career was pre-determined because of their first outing, their wouldn’t be a National Football League to play in anymore.  How could there be?  Can you imagine what must have been going through Stanton’s mind before and during that game?  The nerves he must have had combined with his first live action at NFL speed is an obvious recipe for a poor performance.

I’m not saying Drew Stanton will be a productive NFL player during his career.  I am simply saying to give up on him, or any player for that matter after a single game is preppostuous.  But then again, that sounds like typical Lions football, doesn’t it?
