taxiMany Chandler Crossings residents and MSU students utilize East Lansing taxi’s on a regular basis. While this is a great decision for safety and convenience, it could be doing a number on your piggy bank. Until recently, I would pay the taxi driver what ever rate he told me I owed. Little did I know, unless the taxi driver has a meter in his vehicle (which many don’t) the actual rates are set for East Lansing and must be obeyed.

You should never pay more than a $6 minimum (whether this is for one or more people) or $3 per person. Of course it is OK to tip, but I have paid $6 for just myself when there were other people in the taxi.

Last week Chandler Crossings was invited to meet with the East Lansing City Clerk and she informed us about this new taxi update. She also mentioned that due to the traffic back ups caused by the taxi’s downtown on Albert Street that they are currently trying to re-route the taxis’ to M.A.C. We will keep everyone updated with these changes, but for now just remember that you should only pay $3 per person, unless you are alone and they clearly post a $6 minimum or have a meter. This also doesn’t matter where in East Lansing you are going, and how many miles it is to your destination.

So, continue being safe and using taxi services to your advantage, not theirs!
