So as we enter a new fall semester at MSU, we always have one exciting thing to look forward to. MSU FOOTBALL! It sure is a wonderful time of year, and this year will be no exception. Now, due to lack of media coverage I know it’s hard for most of us MSU football fans to get the skinny on what is actually going down on the practice field and behind the scenes. Well here is a little info you may or may not have heard yet:
1. Last year we lost a bunch of good players. The main spots we will have to fill are Javon Ringer (RB), Brian Hoyer (QB), Justin Kershaw (DT), Brandon Long (DE), Roland Martin (G), Jesse Miller (OT), and last but not least Otis Wiley (S).
2. Kirk Cousins and Keith Nichol are both vying for the QB position. My guess is it will end up being Cousins as the starter.
3. We should have ONE of if not THE best depth in the Big Ten at WR. As of right now, the receiving core consists of Mark Dell, B.J. Cunningham, Charlie Gantt, Blair White, Myles White and Brian Linthicum. There are both returning stars and young guns in there that should be able to tear it up downfield.

4. We may have lost Roland Martin and Jesse miller on our O line, but we still are looking pretty solid with the return of most at that position. The line up looks like this: Joel Nitchman (C), Joel Foreman (LG), Rocco Cironi (LT), McGaha will play RG and Deane will fill in at RT.
5. Good news on the defensive side of the ball. Gordon, Decker and Jones are all returning to get physical at the linebacker position.
6. Rucker, Weaver and Fortener will be supporting down field at the safety positions. This year they won’t have Otis back there with them, but I have a feeling they’ll embrace the new responsibility. I’m expecting a solid year out of them, being older and wiser with the experience.
7. “Slippy, Slappy, Simmons, Swannin….Swanson? Maybe it’s on the briefcase. Oh yeah! SWENSONite!” Can’t forget about “The Leg.” He sure came through in the clutch for us last year so many times, and there is no reason to expect anything different out of Brett Swenson at the K position in 2009.
Didn’t get the Dumb and Dumber movie reference? No hard feelings. I just hope now that you are as ready as I am for MSU football to start. It is a fantastic time of year. Don’t forget, taking the CATA bus from your MSU apartment, especially if you’re going to tailgate, is a great option.
Cheers
